Budapest was originally two cities, Pest and Buda, separated by the Danube river. They were united in 1873. Our hotel is in Pest, so today we explored that part of the city.
First the old Jewish Quarter, now occupied by artists.
Then a guided walk along Andrasst ut, the main avenue, intended to be like the Champs Elysee in Paris, but in fact much narrower

| Underfoot - cobblestones and manhole covers |

| We passed the Opera House |
 |
| And a grand theatre building on the opposite side of the street |
 |
| On the way to Hero's Square |
 |
| And Parliament building |

| Which one is alcohol-free? |

After lunch and "30 minutes horizontal", back to the Opera house for a guided tour inside the building. Photographing is an extra fee, so Jack's camera was the beneficiary - and I don't have the connection to extract his photos.
A bowl of goulash soup at 5:30 and back to the Opera House for the third time - by subway - for a performance of Salome.
See my review and post-performance snack on Facebook
